QUEER DRAMA: MOVING BEYOND VILLAINY & VICTIMMHOOD
16 MAY 2024
Celebrating the release of their books, poet and liberation psychologist Sanah Ahsan will be in-conversation with Black Buddhist Southern Queen and author, Lama Rod Owens.
Sanah Ahsan and Lama Rod Owens to hold an important conversation. These writers' different practices of Islam and Buddhism will infused a deliciously queer and spiritual conversation. Drawing on the themes of Sanah's debut poetry book ‘I cannot be good until you say it’ and ‘The New Saints: From Broken Hearts to Spiritual Warriors’.
They asked: who gets to be good in a society built upon hierarchy? Ideas of 'good' and 'bad' often feed polarisation in queer communities, creating cultures of drama, disposability, villains and victims.
The conversation explored how we might practice more sacred ways of being in relationship with each other, relinquishing the tyrannies of goodness, to allow for a messier and more liberated sainthood.
PRIM was grateful to be able to host this incredible event at Burley Fisher Books in London. Below you will find the event recording, so you might listen back or listen for the first time to their insightful conversation.
